Back to design…. I tweaked current elements while creating new elements due to how Alan wanted to lay out the certain pages (main / complimentary colours) in the application. My next step is filing all my resources which will be burned to a disc and starting my documentation regarding project processes and usability testing with Joe and Alan.

Carried out two further tests on Monday evening on two people who had no color-blindness conditions. These tests were still relevant as our product can be used by a wide-cross section of people even though it has been created to address issues of people with color-blindness. That made 5 tests in all which we feel is sufficient. The testing went quite well and the feedback has been useful. Will now be doing a write up on the findings of the questionnaire.

I have also began writing out more defined questions to be used in the usability testing phase of the project. I would like to list 10 defined questions but will discuss this with Joe in more depth over Skype or by email in the next few days.

We, as a group, felt the presentation on Friday went very well! We managed to present our prototype in a very professional manner and the recommendations provided to us by our lecturers were greatly appreciated. We are well on the way to completing our application and hopefully using the additional ideas put forward in class can be used to complete this as quickly as possible. The majority of the work over the next few weeks is usability testing and small tweaks to the interface e.g. implementing a scrolling bar for the complimentary colour window to free up real estate for the elements such as buttons and text which appear on screen above it. I feel the bulk of the design work is out of the way and I look forward to writing out relevant documentation regarding the project in its entirety. Here is to the home to stretch!

Have begun on documentation for usability testing, I have written out the tasks that will have to be done and also made a start on the questionnaire which will immediately follow the testing. The 3 people with color blindness have all been made aware of the time and dates of their tests. We will also be testing 2 people with normal eyesight as although our product is aimed at people with color-blindness conditions, it is a product which could be useful for anyone.

A number of attributes changed recently during Val’s meeting. We had wanted to use a colour grid system but that was going to be too time consuming even with only 50 colours (Val thought we were mad to put it simply). She instead worked out an alternative that used an array and with some help from Gary she offered us that alternative in the previous meeting. I was left in the dark with coding the grid system RGB values due to this so it was back to the drawing board for design.

I focused primarily on a sleek finish and introduction logo videos using various resources and tutorials online, more notably PSDTUTS (What a wonderful site).

I was in touch with Ryan from 2nd year and did a simple usability test with him (by this I mean I emailed him our prototype along with numerous questions relating to key topics we thought he should review when using the application :p). He generously gave up his time to sit down and mess around with it (Thanks Ryan!) and got back to me with clear answers as to what he thought. This will help us greatly in the final development of the colour blindness app. A load has been taken off our mind knowing that the functionality and design elements are, for now, manageable for a colour deficient user to navigate easily. Over the coming weeks we will all be working extremely closely to achieve a professional and impressive application!
